Art Opportunities for Youth at Tacoma Art Museum

Dive into the world of printmaking, inspired by two special exhibitions: Edvard Munch and the Sea, starring Norway’s most famous artist, and Northwest Native Prints, featuring local contemporary Native American artists. Take cues from the landscape of Puget Sound to create experimental monotypes, design a personal screen printed t-shirt, and create a masterpiece print series!

Sculpt!
July 18-22
A giant cardboard dog, a larger-than-life bronze bearcub, and a cast of western characters will ignite imaginations in this camp about 3D art. Experiment with clay, cardboard, wire, and more; create individual works of art while learning how artists plan and make sculptures. Collaborate to make a team-sized sculpture!

Glass!
July 25-29
Explore the transformative properties of glass! Take inspiration from TAM’s world-class studio art glass collections including works by Dale Chihuly, Paul Marioni, Cappy Thompson, and other Northwest glass artists. Paint, fuse, slump, and even blow glass to create one-of-a-kind works of art.

“Crash Course” in Art
Entering grades 6–8, Monday through Friday, 9 am–5 pm
Put your tween/teen on a collision course with art at TAM this summer! Take creative risks during camps filled with amazing art, awesome new friends, and expert instructors. Explore new art-making processes, try interesting materials, and create works that you’ll be proud to show off. At the end, invite friends and family to see your masterpieces at TAM!

Printmaking
July 11–15
Try screenprinting, linocuts, and 3D printing. Take cues from the exhibitions Edvard Munch and the Sea, starring Norway’s most angsty artist, and Northwest Native Prints, highlighting the latest work of contemporary Native artists. Encounter original prints in the galleries, and get a behind-the-scenes peek at TAM’s collection before you make masterpieces of your own.

Sculpture
July 18–22
All about 3D art.Carve, chisel, cast, assemble, and more. Investigate bronze casting, work with clay, and create both individual and collaborative sculptures. Meet expert artists and learnthe tricks of the sculpture trade.
